SPRING 2020 PROGRAM UPDATE: Community-Informed Policy
We advocate for policies that eliminate educational inequities and ensure quality schools thrive; align communities and create coalitions to achieve positive change
Research and Listening Tour
We’ve begun this entirely new area of work with extensive research and a listening tour to identify key partners and hear more about what’s needed to eliminate policies that perpetuate inequities among students and threaten the long-term sustainability of existing high-quality schools.
Policy and Advocacy Agenda
Our policy and advocacy work will focus on five core areas:
Coherent systemwide governance and strategy
Adequate and equitable resources (e.g. funding and facilities)
Diverse and equitable talent pipelines
Performance transparency and accountability
Community voice and empowerment
Policy and Advocacy Strategy
Our team has created an initial 3-5 year policy strategy, and is writing some original policy analysis rooted in these focus areas, which we will begin publishing soon for a variety of audiences. We will also conduct a public opinion poll in the near future to further inform our strategy and guide our research.
Tracking COVID-19 Response Legislation
As state and federal lawmakers respond to COVID-19 and the corresponding economic fallout, our team is monitoring the policymaking process, ensuring school leaders remain informed about potential impacts to their schools, and serving as a watchdog and advocate for equitable distribution of relief resources.
